Running rugby on Maids¯ menu (01.08.03)

NEW 1st team coach Brenton Fielke is happy with Maidenhead’s preparations for the new season and is promising the fans some attractive running rugby.
He said: "We have a number of talented young backs and I would like to see them get a bit more ball.
“I want to see some open rugby. There's no point having someone freezing out on the wing.
“If 15 guys train, 15 guys should play a part in the game."
Youth seems to be a theme in this year’s campaign, with Fielke also promising some fresh blood in Maids' ageing front-row.
He added: "There are a couple of young guys in the forwards now.
“We've turned over a few of the older players.
"They will take time to adjust to the rigours of senior rugby, but they're training hard, so hopeful that will bear fruit."
However, unlike last season, the club does not appear to be making promotion back to South West 1 its sole objective.
Fielke said: "We have some good foundations in place but let's wait and see how it pans out.
"We'll work hard and prepare ourselves well, but it's very hard to predict. I don't know the competition that well.
"I watched a few games last year and it seems to be a bit of a mixed bag in this league. We'll just wait and see how the season progresses."
