| Maids
gain from lessons learned (26.09.03) |
MAIDENHEAD
coach Brenton Fielke remained philosophical after Saturdays
heavy defeat to Chinnor, as he prepared to take the lessons learned
from the match forward into the current league campaign.
He said: All we did was tackle all afternoon. We got through
a mountain of defensive work.
Were not securing enough possession in our first phase
game, and we're going to have to strengthen that up.
The temptation is to resort to the clubs veteran forwards,
who have experienced many seasons at a higher level.
However, it is a temptation Fielke is finding relatively easy to
resist, as he focuses on the clubs long-term future.
He said: They certainly have the experience and I would love
them to be fit.
But unless they train they don't play. Especially when players
like Dave Johnson are putting in the hard yards.
Obviously, I want to put the best team out on the paddock
but we also have to look to the future.
Tomorrow (Saturday), Maids entertain struggling Frome at Braywick,
kick-off 3pm.
The Somerset side have leaked 66 points in their opening two games,
while scoring just eight, so should provide relatively few challenges.
But Fielke is taking no chances, saying: "They've just come
up so they're probably still adjusting to the new league. They will
also be desperate to put some points on the board.
But I honestly can't see any excuse for losing to them, even
though we're not at full strength.
If you have a plan for your season, you have to have that
down as a win.
Maidenhead have drawn Slough at home in the next round of the PowerGen
Cup on October 18.
