Edwards: Philosophical (18.10.01)

MAIDENHEAD 1st team coach Simon Edwards was philosophical after Saturday's friendly defeat at Havant, claiming the game provided a good platform for a fresh assault on the league.
Saturday's high-scoring thriller may have been a friendly, but Havant are currently top of London Division 1 and are certainly no push-over.
Edwards said: "The score flattered them. It was a game we could have won.
"They scored four tries in the first half, three of which were breakaway tries from inside their own 22.
"Two of those came from knock-ons, so basically there was one mistake and two poor refereeing decisions."
Going in at the turn 26-5 down, many were predicting an embarrassing whitewash, a view which gained further credence when Havant scored a fifth try after the break.
Edwards said: "I honestly thought that would be curtains for us, but from then on in we didn't look back.
"All of a sudden we got it together, put the ball wide and ran in three tries.
"For the first time in three or four weeks we were playing 15-man rugby and we finished the game very, very well against a very strong side."
However, Edwards admitted his only real concern was his side's recent losing streak in the league.
He said: "Losing is like winning. It can become infectious and that's something we have to address this weekend.
"The two games we have lost so far have been to the top two sides in the league and both away from home.
"But we still need to be 'Fortress Braywick' and if we lose to Chinnor on Saturday it will send out a big signal to the rest of the league.
"If we're not on top our game we'll struggle, but it's a must win game."
Saturday's crunch home encounter kicks-off at 3pm.
