Colts cruise to BB&O trophy (18.04.02)

Maidenhead U19 43, Redingensians U19 8

Maidenhead Under 19 Colts rebounded from their narrow defeat in the semi-finals of the National Cup with a resounding win over Redingensians in the final of the Berks, Bucks and Oxon Championship at Bletchley on Sunday.
Maids put down a marker in the first minute when Tom Guest burst clear from his own half to score under the posts.
Redingensians responded with some good pressure to win a penalty and take three points.
This was returned with interest as centres Simon Ward and Nils Mordt took Maids back upfield before Guest drove over from 10 yards.
With half-backs Gareth Edwards and Daniel Martin getting a good supply of ball, Maids’ backs were rampant and another searing break by Mordt left James Haskell with just two defenders to beat to score Maids’ third.
Guest then stole the ball in a maul in his own 22 and winger Lee raced clear and then off-loaded to Matt Ansell who then put flanker Stuart Douglas clear to score under the posts.
Within minutes his back row colleague Haskell found a gap and sprinted 60 yards to score which, with three conversions from Mordt, gave Maids a 31-3 half-time lead.
The second half was a relatively relaxed affair but yielded a sparkling opening try when wingers Lee and Ansell burst clear and set up a try for Mordt who needed a little assistance from the giant lock John Jenkins to bulldoze the last five metres.
Redingensians scored a breakaway try before flanker Charles Branch made a fine blindside break for the final score.
