| Frome
to face Maids backlash (20.02.04) |
STRUGGLERS
Frome could feel the wrath of Maidenhead RFC tomorrow (Saturday)
as the title-chasers endeavour to hit their peak before the potential
title-decider with Swanage the following week.
Maids maintained their winning form on Saturday, beating Chippenham
28-23. However, their second-half performance, added to injuries,
means they will be looking for a morale-boosting display in Somerset.
Maids coach Simon Edwards knows just how important this match is,
saying: Its a tough away game, but were going
down there to win well.
Its the game which will secure at least a play-off spot.
Its the game which we need to find form for the Swanage contest.
And its the game the players need to prove themselves
if they are to be selected for the Swanage match.
Reflecting on the Chippenham game, and its implications, Edwards
said: I went straight home after the game and watched the
video. I have given it a lot of thought and under the circumstances
I am very happy with the win.
Chippenham are a very good side, they are the best team outside
us and Swanage, and this was the type of game I expected.
What I was disappointed with was that we failed to react when
they changed tactics in the second half.
He added: But it was probably the game we needed. The kick
up the backside before Swanage.
We are never at our best after a weeks lay-off and I
think thats the last time we will take a break.
The bad news for Maids is that hooker Malcolm Eddington and second
rower Jacques Botha have sustained serious injuries, although flanker
Nick Kertesz has returned to strengthen the squad.
