Maids coasting (28.11.02)

A CONVINCING win over Dorchester on Saturday has kept Maidenhead’s promotion campaign on track, but coach Tony Brooks claims there is still room for improvement.
He said: “Again, it was one of those games we were never in danger of losing.
“What pleased me was that we played the territorial game well, but because we were never in danger we coasted a bit.
“We weren’t far enough ahead to do that and we can’t afford to do that again.
“The forwards did very well, so we just need to work on a few things behind the scrum.”
Brooks also had a few words to say about the man in black, blaming him for keeping Dorchester in the game.
He said: “The ref disappointed me.
“I had a good chat with him afterwards. I told him it was the inconsistencies I couldn’t cope with.
“We had Rob Hawkins yellow carded for killing the ball, but when their guy did it at the other end he only gave a penalty.
“When you feel you have suffered some injustice you start to get irritated and you lose concentration.
“I think the boys did well to keep their cool and get back into it.”
However, on the whole, Brooks was satisfied with a job well done.
He added: “Resultswise, so far so good, but we still have a lot of room for improvement.
“The players are doing their best and I think it’s just a matter of becoming comfortable with the kind of game we’re trying to play, and getting them to play total rugby.”
Tomorrow (Saturday), Maids travel to midtable Grove, kick-off 2.30pm, with high hopes for another win.
However, Brooks is taking nothing for granted.
He said: “I don’t make predictions.
“I hope we can carry on the momentum from Saturday.
“But the one thing I have learned is that none of the teams in this league turn over easily.”
