Club mourns sad loss (09.02.05)

CLUB vice-president and fixtures secretary Chris Reeves, 72, died peacefully at his home in Belmont Road on Friday, from a heart condition.
The former systems analyst had been a long-serving member of the Braywick-based rugby club, performing the important role of organising the huge number of matches, players and officials for the various teams.
Friends and family members have been quick to pay tribute to the hard-working sports fan, who was a married father-of-three and devoted grandfather to his six grandchildren.
Son Paul Reeves said: "Obviously the rugby club was a huge thing in his life for the last few years - he really did enjoy all his involvement in the club, but sport was always a great interest in his life. He was very keen on bowls too and cricket.
"He was great to his kids and his grandkids and he will be greatly missed by everyone."
Friend and fellow Maidenhead Rugby Club supporter Graham Chamberlain said he was absolutely devastated by the news.
He said: "Chris and I had a unique friendship going back at least 15 years. We used to sell programmes together at the rugby matches at Braywick and we supported the club home and away, travelling literally thousands of miles together over the years.
"There was always a lot of banter, a lot of insults, but never any aggression. For me personally, rugby and Saturdays will never be the same again."
Simon Edwards, chief executive and coach at Maidenhead Rugby Club, said everyone was deeply shocked by the sudden loss.
He said: "It's a big loss to the club. Chris was a very hard-working behind-the-scenes member of the club. He was the sort of man who you never really saw what he did, but it was huge.
"The club will obviously be doing something for him and his family and we will have a minute's silence at the game on Saturday."

A funeral service will be held at the Amersham Crematorium at 3pm on Friday, February 18.

Family and friends are gathering at the rugby club immediately after the service.

Jean Piercey will be talking over Chris' responsibilities until the end of the season.
