"Job done" on Clevedon (07.04.05)

MAIDENHEAD coach Simon Edwards was pleased with Saturday’s win in Clevedon, and particularly with the way his side defused the home side’s early onslaught.
He said: “I always knew Clevedon would give blood and thunder for 20 minutes. They played with the wind because they wanted to get a lead.
“They got that lead, but by half-time we were 8-5 up and it was game over.
“After that we just kept them down in their half. Job done.”
He was also impressed by the professionalism his players displayed, adding: “Clevedon are a very awkward side. Their defence is very good, so I was delighted to score 28 points.
“And we hardly gave a penalty away all game. It was a thoroughly professional performance.
“That’s why we’re fourth from top and they’re fourth from bottom.”
The win also provided an ideal launching pad for tomorrow’s (Saturday’s) home clash with Chinnor, kick-off 3pm at Braywick.
Talking about the game, Edwards said: “There’s nothing on the game apart from local pride and fourth place. We haven’t got much chance of getting a result in Bridgwater in two week’s time, so if we want to keep fourth spot and finish top of the ‘amateur’ league we need to win on Saturday.”
Chinnor are old rivals of Maids, while their coach works with Edwards on his divisional coaching duties.
Edwards said: “Chinnor are very much like us. On their day they are a very good side, but they do have their off days. They probably have the edge in the forwards, and we probably have the edge in the backs, which bodes well for an interesting game.
“We nicked a result up there, so they’ll be coming for revenge.
“We’re looking forward to it.”

Meanwhile, the rebuilding process for next season is already underway, with Edwards claiming five players are now lined up for a move to Braywick.
