Resurgent Maids continued their climb up the league table with a comfortable 27-12 victory at Aldermaston on Saturday. Another solid performance from the forwards, well-marshalled by scrum-half and man-of-the-match Dave Thomas, provided the platform for the sprightly backs to work their magic, taking an early stranglehold with tries from wingers Lester Martin and David Williams. Despite their dominance, Maids, sponsored by The Penn Motor Company, had to wait until the end of the first half before extending their lead. A great shove at a 5-metre scrum put the Aldermaston scrum-half under pressure, allowing fly-half Dave Goodman to charge down his opposite number's clearance kick and win the race to touch down. Rob Wilkins added the conversion for a 17-0 lead at the break. Maids started the second period in the same vein and pulled further ahead when centre Pete Bluck picked a great line to burst through for a try near the posts, with Wilkins kicking the extra points. The plucky home side never gave up and hit back with two tries as Maids began to tire, but a Wilkins penalty from in front of the posts put the game out of reach and sealed another satisfying win for the visitors.
