Berkshire Shire Hall
20 v Maidenhead 3rds 19 |

Maidenhead put their bodies on the line with a true gutsy effort but failed in the dying moments going down 20 points to 19 to Shire Hall in appalling conditions. Maids conquered the conditions early on using ruck ball and short off loads giving tries to Tony Rawlings and Rob Wilkins who converted both giving a 14 nil advantage. With the water level rising from the torrential rain the ball began to spill, infringements snuck into Maidenhead's game giving Shire Hall the opportunity to take 3 points in the final stages of the first half. Shire Hall struck first in the second half running in a try unopposed in the corner. Maids then lost Martin Adams Vehicle Servicing Man of the Match John Wanklin for 10 minutes and again soon after with a broken nose. Maids stuck to their game and were rewarded not long after with a superb try to Gareth Williams with who first switched the ball inside to fullback Ed Poulding who cut through the defence and passed back inside to Williams to score. Maids failed to take advantage of their supremacy and started to give away penalties that were successfully kicked by the opposition. Shire Hall went over again twice more and in the closing moments Maidenhead had an overlap but were unable to spread the ball wide in the filthy conditions.
