Maidenhead 3rds 74 v Berkshire Shire Hall 19 Saturday 4th November 2006 |

Maids produced their best performance of the season to turn round an early 14-0 deficit and record a comprehensive 74-19 victory with some scintillating 15-man rugby against Shire Hall at Braywick on Saturday. A fantastic display from the Maids pack paved the way, with total dominance in set pieces and the loose exemplified by the tireless work of hooker and The Penn Motor Company man-of-the-match Mitch Batten. The impressive forwards created the perfect platform for Maids' skilful back line to run riot against the shell-shocked visitors. Trailing to a couple of sloppy tries in the opening 10 minutes, the home side bounced back with tries from scrum-half Dave Thomas and a pair from Lester Martin for a 17-14 lead at the break. With their tails up, Maids proceeded to systematically dismantle the visitors' defence in the second half, running in further tries from No 8 Piers Morgan (2), full-back Ed Poulding (2) and centres Peter Bluck (2) and John Sudbury (2). The victory was rounded off in fine style when Maids ran the ball from their own try line on the last play of the game, culminating in Martin touching down to complete his hat-trick, with fly-half Dave Goodman adding his seventh conversion.
