6 out of 6 for Mr Hawkins

Maidenhead 2nds 34 v Chinnor 2nds 17

Saturday 27th January 2007

I think it would be fair to say this was a bit of a grudge match. Chinnor, one below Maidenhead 2nds in the table but equal on points, it was a must win game for us.

The first 10mins was all Chinnor and Maids defence was top rate everyone putting there bodies on the line. Maids then turned the corner with a score and with Rob Hawkins bringing his kicking boots, it was immaterial where the kicking opportunities were on the field.

Each kick was a foregone conclusion with a 6 from 6 mercurial display of place kicking and pleasure to watch. With Rob Mitchell going over and Karl Kempton continuing his impressive run of try scoring going over again, at half time Maids were 24-3 up and we were looking for more.

Maids as a team are working well as a squad and with 25 players up for selection it is getting harder and harder, great news. Inevitably Maids took there foot off the gas, but with Pete Wynider scoring we were home and dry.

With indiscretions from Piers Morgan sending him to the bin for 10mins and Luke Mc Andrew (coming on for 2 mins then going off for 10mins) Chinnor scored a couple of tries.

We couldn't have asked for a better result. Again a good pack performance working to set the platform for the backs to express themselves.

One big game down, the next one this weekend at HOME to WHITNEY

On a sobering thought, Maidenhead 2xv would like to send there condolences to Oxford Harlequins 2xv for the tragic lose of one of their players over the weekend.
