Maids three strikes over Windsor

Maidenhead 2nds 29 v Windsor 2nds 5

Saturday 24th February 2007

Well it was always going to be a weekend of Rugby, just who had the nerves to stay the course. Maids 2xv were up against Windsor 2xv for the 3rd time this season and even though we had 2 wins under our belt, as always Windsor 2xv seemed up for the fight.

The game started at a pace both sides throwing everything at each other to break the dead lock, with Maids sticking to there game plan and proving that simple, direct, phase rugby is not necessarily the worst option. Into a stiff breeze Maids opened the scoring with a well taken try by Ali Childs to break the dead lock and thankfully starting putting the last pass to hand with further tries from Nesbit and Cormac and Hawkins punting in with two conversion from wide out to end the half 19-0 up.

The second half Maids turned round with what wind was left behind them and were met by increasingly stiff opposition that were certainly not going down without testing all areas of Maids defence across the pitch. Maids kept great composure and scored again through Kempton, even from the second row he can find the white wash!! with Hawkins converting and adding a penalty Maids were safe for another well deserved victory and the onward march to the top of the league clash with Oxford Harlequins March 17th at Braywick.

Again a fantastic team performance with players moving up to the 1st and leaving the 2nds to use all there resources and having to play people out of position, but such is the team ethic players just knuckled down and got the job done, a huge thank you from the management.

Man of the Match Phil White: with another great effort round the pitch and fantastic in the line out, well deserved.

Next Reading Abbey Away from home, which always presents a few more problems and with more players going down in the 1xv, we will be stretched to the max in the squad.
