Once again the conditions, threatened to soil the Rugby for all on the pitch and off. Luckily it didn't materialise and the weather came out fine like the Rugby! Maidenhead were very aware this had banana skin written all over it and all week during training we had talked about our game plan. It was no surprise when a big Redingensians' pack started the extremely physical encounter with big tackles and throwing there big second rows into the heart of Maidenhead's defence and it's fare to say the whole game was a real war of attrition for both sides. Maidenhead got off to a good start scoring through the backs with Jalski using his new found bulk to railroad his way over in the corner and Liptrot kicking the conversion. In a game a few opportunities Maidenhead got themselves in to positions and with penalties being given left, right and centre, Liptrot managed to slot a couple more pens and nudge the score board over. Redingensians came stemming back and some fantastic defence by Maids held them out till just before 1/2 time when they finally slipped over. At 1/2 time it was all to play for at 8-5 to Maids, We took off with some great defence being lead by Pete Wyndier & Rob Hollingsworth in the back row and the ever dependable Pete Nesbit marshalling Karl Kempton in the mid field. Maids struggled to get continuity together in the second half but ground on and never let the game go, after trading penalties Maids scored a cracking try through the forwards and banged over a couple more penalties to produce an extremely satisfying team win. 19-8 'I can't speak highly enough of the team at the moment, we are just getting on with playing some cracking Rugby, we know what we want to achieve and whoever is in the run on side or not we support each other to the hilt, fantastic to see Next stop is Chinnor at Home then Whitney at Home, two huge games that will give us a huge indication to the top stops. At present we are top of the table on points with Oxford Harlequins and Whitney, so all to play for. |
