Identity Crisis for the 2nds

Bracknell 2nds? 50 v Maidenhead 2nds 25
Berkshire Cup
Sunday 11th March 2007

The 2s are having a serious identity crisis at the moment caused by the opposition in the last two games confusing them for the 1st team

The score line of 50-25 doesn't reflect the effort of the boys who were always up against a strong Bracknell squad using the maximum 1st xv players allowed and more coming off the bench.

After the madness of the week before at Reading Abbey (Abbey confused our 2s arriving at their ground with an away match at Mounts ?) Maids had a week to get themselves together and refocus. With some players back in the fold selections was a handful again with changes made to rest players and give the squad a full run out.

Half time 15-10 Maids were in the hunt with Bracknell trying every trick in the book to break a solid Maids defence. Looking back it seems half time came at the wrong time for Maids, after the break we seemed to go to sleep and start to lose our shape and tackling ability, which was disappointing. To this end Bracknell turned the screw and pressured Maids into mistakes and to that end they played well.

All in all a disappointment to see the Berks Cup moving more towards a 1xv Cup rather than keeping the traditions of a 2xv Cup. Still Maids have now played 2 Berks 1xvs in consecutive weeks which will help the experience levels and tell us how far we have come this season and how far we still have to improve.

This week TOP OF THE TABLE CLASH with Oxford Harlequins at BRAYWICK all support would be hugely welcome for this winner takes all clash.
