"Let’s play the game our way" said Vets Skipper, Steve Prince, just before kick off and how they did. It wasn’t that Twickenham were that bad but the boys in magenta were unstoppable. 3 minutes in, flanker Steve Bourne went over from a great catch at the line by Andy Wells and within 10 minutes Bourne completed his hat-trick with a 30m run from a blind side move started by the iconic Dave Allen. The pattern was established and Maids ran in ten further tries. The pick of some dazzling interplay in the backs were 2 tries each from Julian Rainford and Roger Smith. Brown, Wedderpohl and Weddon added one a piece as did Wanklyn and Allen to complete a back row sweep. But the game wouldn’t be complete without the final word going to inspirational and garrulous Steve Prince who was put in for the final try by Bourne, who very much finished the game off as it started. |
