Last Sunday was a very proud day for Maidenhead Colts when three players appeared for the South West Division in a 35-12 win over London & South-East Division. Wasps Academy lock Tom Plumer has an outstanding game, centre Dave Hodgson slotted into the backline with great skill and application and Sam Stefan, one of Maids' players of the season, came on as replacement to share in a great victory. Congratulations go to all three players. Maids Colts had a friendly fixture at the same time as the Divisional match, against Redingensians - only 16 of the Maids' 33-man squad were available, with injuries and unavailability reducing them on the morning of the game to 5 backs only - with the injured Alex Cannon pressed into action and with big forward Karl Kempton press-ganged into service in the centre. Only four of their normal BBO League line-up started the game. Maids lost 15-14 to a Redingensians team which were, with respect, keen and willing but which would not have figured in the top 10 teams that Maids have met this season. Maids' attitude to the game disappointed the coaches. Even with their denuded team they should have won with something to spare but poor focus, poor concentration and poor execution cost them - and also, they missed four shots at goal, three from close range - although the strong wind took a hand. Try-scorers were Jason Ouston and Joe Thomas, and Matt Wardle and kicked two conversions. Players such as Tim Johnson, Drew Jones, Tom Morgan and Chris Richardson battled hard but there was very little to commend the team performance as a whole. Maids are expecting to have all their squad available for their next match, against Amersham & Chiltern, in a BBO League match. Maids squad |
