Maidenhead Colts' final league game of the season at Braywick last weekend was a special occasion. It wasn't that Maidenhead won the prestigious BBO Colts league, because they had sealed their title weeks before. It wasn't that by their 18-5 win over Oxford, a scoreline that did not represent Maids' dominance, they complete a unique achievement in winning every league game during the season.

Sunday marked the retirement of former Scottish International Gordon MacDonald as Head Coach of Maidenhead Colts. Following his own distinguished rugby career, playing with the likes of Wasps' Coach and former Lion, Ian McGeechan, winning his Scottish cap against Ireland in 1969, and having played in fine London Scottish teams, Gordon had coached at Maidenhead for the last 15 years.

Gordon first handed out medals to some of today's winning Colts side when they were just 6 years old. Under his guidance, Gordon's Maidenhead's Colts have won the BBO league in three out of the last five years and been to the National Cup semi-finals twice.

Maidenhead won the game against Oxford with tries from Tom Plumer and Ben Sedler. Dave Hodgson kicked a conversion and 2 penalties. They played well, though poor finishing costs them points.

The Colts ended their League season magnificently. Other good news was that No 8 Joe Thomas, on a nearby pitch, was promoted to play in Maids' senior County Cup win over Bracknell. But the game and the score were irrelevant. The day was Gordon's.

Gordon's winning squad was:
Batten, Brown, Corcoran, Emmanuel, Jones, Knowles, McSweeney, Mitchell, Morgan, Ouston, Plumer, Sedler; Adam, Cannon, Christian, Dean, Grant, Hodgson, Hogan, Standfast, Stefan, Wardle.
