Youth Section Extraordinary General Meeting

To be held at Maidenhead Rugby Club on Thursday 27th September 2007 from 8.00 pm

There are two motions for debate.

  • The change to the constitution in line with the main club EGM.
  • The election of a new youth treasurer.

By way of background to the change in the constitution, this EGM seeks to formalise the question of merging the Youth section and the Main Club, the benefits of which were debated and agreed at this year's Youth Section AGM and are outlined below. On Tuesday 18th September, an EGM of the members of the Main Club approved the following proposals:-

  1. Creating a "Family" membership category (with full voting rights etc).
  2. Creating a "Junior" membership category (with no voting rights).
  3. Entitling Club Members (whether Vice President, Player, non player, Life, Honorary, Veteran, Family etc) to have their children play in the Youth section free of charge (i.e. their sub includes this benefit).
  4. Adding Mini and Junior chairmen to the Senior Club Committee.

Why integrate?

  • Promotion of a "one-club" philosophy, and closer links between all sections of the Club.   There are already a significant number of Senior Club players with children playing in the Youth Section, indeed, many now coach our youngsters.
  • A wider membership base with enhanced sponsorship and marketing opportunities.   With a larger membership, we should be able to communicate with a wider audience in regard to all that we do.
  • More youth parent participation and involvement in the affairs of the Club.
  • Establishment of a Club-wide set of procedural and operational policies.   Coordination of sponsorship activities, Club kit, disciplinary matters are areas where we foresee significant improvement following an integration.
  • Consolidation of financial resources.  The Clubhouse is used approximately 60% by the Senior teams, and 40% by the Youth Section.   It is an asset that requires constant maintenance and all sections of the Club should support its development.
  • Consolidation of Club administration and budgetary controls.    We hope to remove financial and other risks by overseeing all levels of Club activity.
  • Grants and Fundraising.   More and more grants are aimed at Clubs which represent the wider community and the development of our young players.  To gain access to these funds, we need to be able to present a united picture.

We look forward to seeing you at the EGM and we hope you are as excited about this development as both committees are
