Marlow 1sts 5pts
vs Maidenhead 1sts 53pts (EDF Cup)
With a break from league action
Maidenhead was in action in the EDF Energy National
Trophy Round One South against near neighbors Marlow
Any run in this competition is
financially beneficial to the Club and to that end Maidenhead
fielded the strongest team available. With a few changes,
it took a while for Maidenhead to get into their stride,
but it was soon obvious that the pace of the backs was
going to play an important part in the match
Inside ten minutes, slick passing
along the three-quarters put the Carter (playing on
the wing) in space to cross the line unopposed.
A few minutes later a similar well worked move along
the line, put Stuart Mackay in space, to stroll over
the Marlow line
On fifteen minutes Maidenhead scored
the best try of the match, again from quick passing
along the line, the space was hit in the centre at pace
for Mackay again to streak through the little cover
from forty meters out
Marlow was having difficulty behind
the scrum from Maidenhead's direct attacking play, with
quick hands and going for the space rather than attacking
the opponent, Maidenhead started to dominate
With the score at 22-0 Marlow got
onto the sheet with a well worked forwards try. The
ball was caught at a line out about 10 meters out and
the pack proceeded to drive over the Maidenhead line.
this was Marlow's only real attacking option
Stuart then made it a hat-trick
of tries, again with a well constructed move along the
line
Half-time score - 5-29 to
the visitors. The second half became a bit disjointed
with multiple substitutions and both teams took time
to adjust to the changes. However this was a good work
out for Maidenhead. The pack was dominant all afternoon,
having no troubles in the line-out, scrum or in the
loose, which in turn gave the backs the easiest afternoon
of the season so far
Maidenhead has been drawn away
to Old Patesians in the second round on Saturday 17th.
