Maidenhead RFC U10's Victorious at
Brean
Maidenhead RFC U10's took
a strong squad of 16 to the final festival of
the season at Brean Sands. Despite the weather
forecast, we kicked off the tournament in perfect
rugby conditions at 10am against host club Burnham
on Sea, gaining a confident opening win of 3-0.
Our second
game against Olney Warriors was less confident
and an under par display led to a 3-1 loss.
However, against Hinckley
the boys gathered themselves to produce a 4-0
win and completed the first day with a 6-0 thrashing
of Woodford Bulldogs.
Day 2 kicked off with a match
against Cobham, a team we desperately wanted to
beat having been defeated by them on two occasions
earlier this year. The growing confidence and
desire for the win saw a magnificent 3-1 win with
Cobham only gaining their consolation try with
the last play of the game.
The final pool game was against
Old Rutlishians who we met in the Plate final
last year, narrowly losing 1-0 to a very dubious
penalty.
At this stage, Rutlishians
were undefeated so we knew we were in for a tough
game. However, a 2-0 defeat to the eventual U10
champions confirmed that we were not far off that
pace.
Having won 4 out of 6 games,
we finished second in the pool, qualifying for
the plate final on tries scored, 17. The plate
final was against Cwmbran who we knew had brought
a strong team, so another tough battle was in
store.
Both teams demonstrated a
desire to win, but after going 2-0 up within the
first 4 minutes, the Cwmbran boy's heads dropped
and at that stage the game was won.
Bravely they defended a determined
Maidenhead team and to their credit only succumbed
twice more, although one try was disallowed. In
the end, however, a comfortable 3-0 win saw Maids
U10's lift the plate trophy.
