| Maids Overcome With Injury |
|
|
|
|
|
Nobody would have claimed before tha match
that we were going into this game with a
good chance of winning it, but neither would
anybody have forecast the team line up that
ended the game
A raft of first half injuries meant that
Maids played most of the second half with
14 men having used all of their substitutes. With
a half time score of 29-8, it is clear to
see the second half and final score were
not totally reflective of Maids spirit and
commitment typified by Richie 'the
cheetah' Craig in the unfamilar position
of centre
With their backs against the wall Maids
fought to score a well-worked Mykel Parrot
try while Ed Keohane kicked a penalty
Final score Redingensians 62pts vs Maidenhead
8pts

Colts Leading
The Way
The process of intigrating
the Colts into the senior sides for the rest of
the season proved a worthwhile step as three of
this year's colts enjoyed a well fought game at
top of the table Henley
The 2nds will enjoy a home
fixture this week against Esher with a team balanced
between the age and experience of stalwarts such
as Piers 'The Dutch Cap' Morgan at No 8 through
to young Tom Hudson at No 15
If you want to see some stars
of the future on Saturday - pop over and have
a look at the 2s

Title Hopes Dented
Thatcham 2nds 12pts vs Maidenhead
4ths 0pts
Maids' title hopes suffered a dent
as they fell to a hard-fought 12-0 defeat away to
Thatcham 2nds.
For once the Maids pack came off second best against
the well-drilled home side, who enjoyed the bulk
of possession throughout and were well worth their
7-0 half-time lead.
It was testament to the visitors fine defensive
work that they remained in the contest until Thatcham
added their second try in the dying minutes to seal
victory. |

Jake Makes Baa-Baas
Jake Jenkins, MRFC U11s player,
has made it through the latest round of selection
to be picked as first choice Outside Centre in
the England Prep School Baa-baas team after playing
in a South versus North match and trial at Rugby
School last month
After a training session,
the trial took the form of a match played on the
same pitch that William Webb-Ellis began the game
and saw the South comprehensively beat the North
by 50 points to nil over three 15 minute periods.
Jake has been playing at
MRFC since he was 5 years old, and the Club has
been a significant influence on his development
as have been the talented lads in the U11 squad
he plays with every Sunday. Jake is due to tour
Northern Ireland with the Baa-baas at the end
of this month.
I am sure all at the club
wish Jake a succesful and enjoyable tour

U12s Coming on Strong
U12 A's 10pts vs Wallingford A's 10pts
The A squad showed how much
they have progressed by putting in a highly competitive
performance in a very tight and closely contested
game. Having been beaten 10-0 in a game at the
start of the season in 7 mins, Maids were determined
to show their improved defence which has only
conceded 11 tries in 12 games since Xmas.
The scrum provided a solid
foundation for good quality ball enabling maids
to dominate most of the first half, however they
were stung when Wallingford strung a good backs
move together to open the scoring in the corner.
Maids responded by increasing their aggression
and all put in good hard tackles, clearing rucks
rapidly.
This was rewarded with a
well worked try for Ben Gordon just after half
time. Unfortunately Maids the relaxed and quickly
conceded a try, but then put all the pressure
on Wallingford as they battled for the equaliser.
In the final play, the pressure and hassle paid
off as Daniel Cutler was able to pounce on a loose
ball over the line to equalise and restore pride.
Notable strong performance by 'man of the match'
Tom Kynaston, who showed controlled aggression,
a great work rate and solid tackling ability.
Overall an excellent team performance and it's
great to see some of the things that have been
practiced on the training field coming through
in to matches.
U12 B's vs Wallingford Barbarians
Without enough players for 2 sides, Wallingford
played a mixed A/B team against Maids B's and
the Maids showed great character and determination
in a tough game. Wallingford won, but excellent
performances were given by Richard Derry, Tom
Judd, Ben Smith and Ben Gordon, the highlight
of which was a charge down and try by Richard
Derry, after the whole Wallingford defence had
been put under pressure by some tight Maids marking
and hustling

Message From
the Boss
Club General Manager
As some of you may know,
Billy has accepted a new role outside the Club
and so has stepped down as General Manager.
His wife Teresa has kindly stepped into his shoes
for the remainder of this season. We have
already received interest from a number of people
wishing to be considered for this role and would
like to invite any other Club members to let us
know if they are interested in applying for the
GM role.
Please email me directly
on jwanklyn_home@hotmail.com or call me on my mobile before Thursday
25th March.
Help needed
I am pleased to report that
the Clubhouse extension project has started and
is on track. The plan is to get as much
of the new external building work completed before
the end of the season, then close while the internal
work is carried out. The Clubs last rugby
activities conclude on Sunday 25th April, and
so I would like to ask for volunteers to help
us clear out and pack up the Clubhouse fixtures,
fittings, pictures, memorabilia and furniture
on Monday 26th April.
If you are able to help please
let me know by contacting me at jwanklyn_home@hotmail.com or on my mobile, 07834 899788.
Many thanks.
Best regards
John Wanklyn
CEO & Chairman,
Maidenhead Rugby Club
