U16s' good forward performances v Old Ruts and Farnborough

Maidenhead U16A 10 v Old Rutlishians U16 17

Sunday 20th November 2011

Maidenhead U16 1st team versus Old Ruts RFC U16

Maids opened their offensive by conceding a soft try from Old Ruts when the back line lost sight of their overlap and scored. Maids kept territory and possession for most of the first half, but couldn't get the scoring started until sub number 9 Patrick Bart opened the account with a blistering burst of speed.

In the second half Ruts repeated their first half try, and Maids retaliated when prop Jodie Dance finished the final move of a number of pick and drive phases. Ruts responded once with their backs taking the final try. Maidenhead 10 Ruts 17.

Maidenhead U16 2nd team versus Farnborough A U16

There was much to celebrate in this performance by Maidenhead's forwards who made opportunities and by the straight forward passing style of the backs who got the ball out wide. Like their fellow backs in the 1st team, the 2nd team backs have a tendency to stand a little flat which caused some loss of possession.

The final score was not important and indeed not known by this reporter. What mattered was that the team competed with a 1st team and gave no quarter, commanding enough territory to allow at least two tries by the forwards. My excuse is it was foggy and what with an injury to a visiting player and running the line, I lost track. Still if anyone thinks they can do better....
