U15 Rangers avenge defeat at Aldermaston

Maidenhead U15 Rangers 22 v Aldermaston U15s 17
Berkshire League Div 2

Sunday 24th January 2010

Rangers were in the mood to avenge their pre-Christmas defeat to Aldermaston this Sunday at Braywick. Rangers were determined to put in a performance to remember and they did not disappoint as they ran out 22-17 winners in a close game.

Maids played all the creative rugby winning two or three phases of ball then quickly releasing the ball wide to see Louis Legs Crossley open the scoring against the opening run of possessional and territorial play. Aldermaston were always applying pressure from some big forwards which proved decisive in Maids' loss to them earlier this season but Aldermaston hadn't reckoned with the return of Lewis Wack’em Wilkins for the first time this year in magenta and black. Wilkins inspired the players around him by example and scored the second try of the half smashing reds shirts left and right to power over from 5 metres.

The pick of the tries came just before the break when Lewis Kiddem Kiddell, returned a punt from his own 22 to beat three players with a jink and a dummy to then put Jon Hands Pomroy into space wide on the left. Pomroy outpaced the opposition to score under the posts. Martin Poppet Harris converted and the half ended 17-10 to Maids.

The second half followed similar pattern. Aldermaston running route one and forcing their weight advantage whilst Maids tried to get the ball wide to their pace men. As the game entered the last minutes and Maids tired, indiscipline led to a turnover penalty. Aldermaston scored under the posts. At 17-17 the game was on a knife edge and the crowd on the touchline tried to rally their respective teams. It was Maids though who re-gathered their momentum and after a series of picks and drives led by captain Matt Pinky Pants Martin, the backs moved the ball wide to see Crossley finish the game off as he had started it by picking up his brace of tries.

Well done to all on a great win!
