Maids' U14 were hosts at Braywick to a touring side from Stowmarket RFC on the weekend in unpleasant weather conditions of strong wind and rain. Maidenhead immediately put their marker down by occupying the visitors' half in the first five minutes. Tom Stileman playing as a left winger position took full advantage when the ball was moved wide around the Stowmarket forwards, sweeping imperiously over the line. Scrum half Patrick Bart converted. A second try followed, again by the backs moving the ball wide, this time beyond the winger to the vigilant and alert full back Peter Watt. As a result of the three man overlap created he scored his try loudly at the corner flag. Stileman, obligingly repeated his first try attempt and scored again at half time, brushing off a Stowmarket attempt to push him into touch. The half time score was Maidenhead 17 Stowmarket 0. In an attempt to bolster the visitors, mighty Harry Kealey who normally plays prop played the second half as a second row. Maids' second row Michael White had other ideas, spurning help from his team mates, he ran from a breakdown at the halfway line to touch down under the visitors' posts, breaking through three tackle attempts on his way. Patrick Bart converted the try. Stowmarket up until now had been winning the ball in most of the rucks, getting to the breakdown quickly and frequently shoving Maidenhead off the ball. Their determination and perhaps the additional shove from Harry Kealey gave them enough possession to launch their fly half and centre on a counterstrike before the Maids' defence had disentangled itself from a failed ruck. The Stowmarket backs touched down without encountering a serious resistance. Flyhalf Simon Graham, dummying dizzily left and right found nobody between him and the try line and scored a satisfying final try. Scrum half Bart converted. The final score was Maidenhead B 31 points, Stowmarket 5. Maidenhead
