U14Bs win at Aldermaston

Aldermaston U14 0 v Maidenhead U14B 24
Berkshire League Div 2

Sunday 24th January 2010

Maids started brightly against a large Aldermaston Pack swing the ball wide down the back line and making ground into the Aldermaston half. Second Row Michael White took the opportunity to apply his own shock tactics, successfully charging the ball over the line from 10 metres out. Patrick Bart converted. Maids camped in the Aldermaston half, dominating the line outs and winning ball at the scrums. Effective tackling by the whole team contained every Aldermaston breakout attempt. Maids' second try came from a backs move wide across the pitch enabling fullback Tom Hawkridge to touch down inside the corner flag. Michael White completed the half with a second try, converted by Bart.

In the second half, Aldermaston fought hard, taking the ball into the Maidenhead half for several minutes. Maids pushed back, giving flyhalf Simon Graham the space and time to attempt a drop goal. While well weighted and in the right direction, it flew low, ricocheting off an Aldermaston player over the posts. After some head scratching a 22 yd penalty was awarded to Maidenhead. Maids consolidated their position and flanker Charlie Thomas scored the final try of the match from a scrum on the Aldermaston 5m line after the home side were sold a dummy by the Maidenhead scrum half.

The final score was Maidenhead 24 points, Aldermaston 0.
