U14Bs dominate Reading

Maidenhead U14B 52 v Reading U14 0
Berkshire League Div 2

Sunday 13th December 2009

Match conditions at Reading were good – dry bright and cold. Maidenhead Bs lined up against a Reading ‘A’ team in the Berkshire Youth League U14 Division 2.

Maids looked dominant from the outset pushing the home side into their own half an keeping them there. After ten minutes Maids' respect for an ‘A’ team evaporated as second row Michael White used his physique to drive over the line for the first try following a 5 metre scrum close to the home team try line. Maids pressed hard on the left hand side of the pitch but had two attacks just pushed out on the left hand corner at the Reading try line. Maids' second try came when fly half Simon Graham called for the ball and popped it to charging second row Michael McPherson. McPherson’s momentum carried the ball straight over the line. The next try cam from a 22 yard scrum when number 8 Callum Burston burst from behind the scrum, ignoring the Reading flankers who failed to tackle the mighty Burston. Scrum-half Patrick Bart took note of Burston’s method and did the same himself from a 5 metre scrum to take the score to 26 – nil at half time.

Michael White bagged himself a second try just after half time, driving forward on his own through the Reading line.

Maids' back line finally shipped the ball lightening winger Aaron Whetton on the left wing who ran down the narrowing gap between defenders and the touch line to score. The back line inspired and finally getting service form the forwards released Fly Half Simon Graham who got the ball over the try line but unluckily clipped the touch line before touch down. Later Captain Chris Hudson in the inside centre position bolted through a hole in the Reading defenders to score. Aaron Whetton, not to be outdone repeated his first attempt to finish the game very satisfactorily from Maids point of view, with Reading Hardly troubling the mighty Maids B team. Final Score was Maidenhead 52 points, Reading 0.
