The second league match of the season was played on a heavy pitch still recovering from the thawing of the previous week’s heavy snow. From the kick off, Redingensians came out of the blocks quickly as Maidenhead were immediately on the defensive. The first ten minutes witnessed Maidenhead soaking up the Redingensian attacks and periodically winning ball in the rucks and scrums to enable their fly half Matt Price to kick up field and alleviate the pressure. Indeed it was from one of these kicks in the 10th minute that an awkwardly bouncing ball caused confusion amongst the Redingensian backs. Maidenhead’s Aaron Whetton saw an opportunity. Taking quick advantage, he stooped to pick up the loose ball & ran from the half way line to score under the posts. Lee Neale kicked the conversion to secure a 7-0 advantage to Maidenhead against the run of play. Redingensians continued to press but the Maidenhead defence remained resolute and the half ended with the single converted try separating the teams. The second have saw a complete reversal in the team setting the agenda. This time Maidenhead dominated the play but were denied scoring opportunities by a stout Redingensians' defence. This was a truly dogged Maidenhead team performance and they deserved the slender victory in the end but credit to both teams for their spirited performance in slugging it out to the end. Final Result :- Redingensians 0 – Maidenhead 7 |
