This
Sunday saw Maidenhead under 13s welcoming 6 teams to The Annual Maidenhead
RFC tournament.
Both
the A & B teams faired well with the A team finishing runners
up and the B team finishing third
Maidenhead
A v Chobham, 5-5
There
was nothing to separate these two teams. Maidenhead started strongly
with the forwards displaying fine rucking and mauling skills from
the off. This led to Maids scoring first after several drives up the
park. The score remained as Maidenhead's defence was tested Daniel
Morgan & Jack Chapman were awesome in defence tackling everything.
At the death a try completely against the run of play robbed the hosts.
They had to settle with a draw against the eventual winners Chobham
A.
Maidenhead
A v Camberley A 5-5
Maids
started strongly with good breaks by Rhys Williams but to no avail.
Chris Corio marshalled the forwards well, until deep in Maids own
territory a clearance kick was charged down by Camberley which resulted
in a try.
With
time running out and the weather deteriorating Maids again pushed
forward with great work from the forwards.
The
ball was moved well through the backs to Seb Cooper on the wing to
score a very well deserved try.
Maidenhead
A v Marlow A 0-0
This
match was a very hard fought game. The weather was posing problems
for both teams with a series of ball handling errors. The nearest
to a try in this game came from Marlow but the ball was knocked on
near to the try line great defending by maids to prevent Marlow from
scoring. With Marlow growing in confidence they attempted a last minute
penalty kick which fell short and it ended in Stalemate.
Maidenhead
U13 Bs 0, Marlow U13 Bs 10
Two
scores late in each half meant Maidenhead U13 Bs lost out to Marlow
U13 Bs in their opening match of the Maidenhead tournament. Brave
defending by the Maids' pack absorbed some sustained pressure from
Marlow until a charged down clearance allowed the visitors to touch
down.
Maidenhead
rallied in the second half, led by some fine mauling from prop Levi
Meek. But Maidenhead conceded a second try when Marlow's backs ran
in a late score from close range.
Maidenhead
U13 Bs 0, St John's Beaumont 10
Lack
of concentration marred Maidenhead U13 Bs' second tournament match
against St John's Beaumont. A scrappy first period ended without score
but St John's ran in a try in their first attack after the restart.
Maidenhead
held their better organised opponents until the final minute of the
match, when try line pressure culminated in a second try for St John's.
Maidenhead
U13 Bs 15, Staines Bs 0
Maidenhead
U13 Bs saved the best until last, finishing their final game of the
tournament with a fine win in teeming rain. Cezary Apcio outran the
Staines' defence and crossed the try line but was unable to touch
down. Levi Meek burst through the Staines' pack to score twice in
the first half.
Henry
Reeve scored a third try to cap some well-handled moves by the Maidenhead
backs in the second period.
