U12s drive on at Redingensians' Festival

Sunday 21st February 2010

Maidenhead RFC enjoyed a good day's effort attending finishing third at Redingensians' A-team Mini Festival last Sunday despite only conceding 1 try. Invited to the event at short notice to replace Camberley who had to pull out, Maids fielded a strong squad to take on the challenge against teams from Redingensians, Reading Abbey, Bracknell, Farnham and Twickenham.

Maids' first match was against Farnham. Raring to go, Maids picked up the challenge and once again, demonstrating all-round and effective team play, Abigail Dow delivered Maids' first try. Strong rucking and feeding of the ball enabled Scott Prince to score Maids' second try just before half-time. Continued driving and strong tackling by Maids created an opportunity for Maids to pick up a loose ball and allow Umar Marriott to quickly score their third try. Final score 15 - 0.

Moving into their second match, Maids faced Reading Abbey and both teams worked hard, driving the scrum, tackling and passing the ball well. Maids kept the upper-hand with good communication, teamwork and ball passing to allow Joel Greene and Abigail Dow to score the only tries of the match. Final score 10 - 0.

Half way through the festival and Maids met tournament winners, Redingensians in their third match. Once of the best matches of the day, with both teams demonstrating solid team and match play, strong scrums and driving and passing the ball well. At half-time the score was 0 - 0 and it was obvious that the game could go either way. During the second half the match continued to be evenly balanced, but Redingensians managed to find the lucky break needed to score the only try of the match near to the end of the second half. Final score 0 - 5.

Keeping heads held high, Maids played Twickenham. Maids were determined to win this match and were quick off the mark to win the ball and drive forward to score tries. Maids made some clean breaks and created some great runs but Twickenham fought hard to hold Maids back. Maids continued the strong push which resulted in Xavier Leadbetter scoring for Maids with the only try of the match. Final Score 5 - 0.

In their final match, Maids faced a known and strong squad from Bracknell and were determined to continue to show strength and all-round teamwork. Both teams played strong and hard but neither created the break needed to score a try, so deadlock ensued with a final score of 0 - 0.
