Maidenhead U12s faired well at last Sunday's tournament with the B's winning their event with Henley finishing runners-up and the A's finishing in 3rd place behind Brighton and Wallingford, as winners and runners-up respectively. Maidenhead B proved their strength and determination to win the B's tournament. In what turned out to be the tournament deciding match, they overcame a determined Henley side 15 - 5, with 2 tries from Khalid Omar and the third from Tom Kynaston. A solid scrum, led by Tom Judd, Alistair Graham and Jack Nicholls laid the platform for good possession for Maids strong backs to keep Henley under pressure for most of the match. The opening score came from a well worked move which put Khalid over in the corner, then another set-piece created the space for him to burst through and run half the length of the pitch to score. In the second half, more of the same pressure saw Tom Kynaston this time crash through, showing the strength that has given him several run-outs in the A's to get the final try. The A's started strongly in their tournament with a solid 10 - 0 win over local rivals Henley in a fairly tight game. They showed good attacking play and positive intentions from the off, with excellent set play moves. Aggressive pressure on the Henley scrum forced a loose ball which Joel Greene pounced on. Maids then moved back up towards the Henley line with excellent passing from Alex Thompson and Ben Lawrence to earn a penalty near the line. Quick thinking from Will Lawrence, who took a quick tap and dived over the line. In the second match against Harrow, the A's won 5 - 0 with the try scored by Ben Lawrence, who was broke from the ruck after strong mauling from Alex Martin. Maids were unlucky not to score again following a great kick from Scott Prince, followed by a strong run from Julian Guy, but he was held up just short. In the other 2 games the A's lost 20 - 0 to eventual winners Brighton and 10 - 0 to Wallingford, which didn't really reflect the game, but heads were down after the Brighton defeat. |
