U12s demonstrate team power at Beaconsfield Festival

Sunday 7th March 2010

Maidenhead U12s – 5, Windsor U12s – 0
Windsor, as expected, presented stiff competitive but despite this, a very confident display of good rugby and unselfish play allowed our boys to dominate the game. Only twice did the opposition enter our half with their kicks being secured and run back by full back, Lawrence Hull. Our forwards, especially, Richard Derry and Tom Judd, displayed great strength and determination in the rucks and mauls, winning numerous balls that were cleanly passed out into space, with one being caught by Oli Malik who made a strong run from 10 yards out to score the only try of the game.

Maidenhead U12s – 0, Beaconsfield – 10
Despite another good team effort, Maids conceded two early tries to a Beaconsfield mixed As and Bs team but the boys rallied and gave the competition a fine display of good rugby. Jack Harris-Holborn anticipating a run by Beaconsfield and positioned himself for a spectacular try saving tackle 10 yards from the line and the forwards, inspired by Jack Nicholls's determination and intelligent pay, drove to gain much territory as well as turning over the ball several times.

Maidenhead U12s - 5, Henley - 0
Maids continued in full strength in this match with dominance against another local and strong rival. Good defensive play from Maids, and great driving from Robert Thirtle, kept the pressure on and from Maids' own half, Ben Gordon snatched the ball and ran almost the entire length of the pitch to score Maids' try. Maids won the game with overall team effort and strong communication, with some effective passing, particularly from Sam Hoxley, and tackling with scrum-half James Millwater demonstrating his skills in this area.

Maidenhead U12s - 5, Richmond - 15
Probably Maids' toughest match in the festival against a very strong Richmond who scored their first try within 5 minutes of the match starting. Despite 2 further tries from Richmond, Maids kept the pressure on with good all round tackling and defence allowing Khalid Omar to make the break and score Maids' only try.

Maidenhead U12s - 5, Fullerians - 0
In their final match, Maids faced Fullerians. Tom Judd and Ben Gordon shone in this match with strong passing and possession of the ball. Scrum-half James Millwater once again proved defensive and Maids were rewarded with the team effort with the only try of the match, delivered by Khalid Omar.
