Maidenhead RFC under 12s continued their run of strong play in their fixture with Beaconsfield on Sunday. Firstly, Maids' B's faced Beaconsfield B's, A close game, though Maids always had the upper hand and were in control. Recent squad addition Richard Derry scored his first try within the first minute and Maids set down the marker. They then pushed hard with strong rucking, mauling and tackling to keep the pressure on. This told and after a long period of pressure Khalid Omar continued his scoring ways with the second try for Maids. Beaconsfield recovered in the second half and scored a late consolation try, but the result was never in doubt. Other notable performances from Ben Smith, showing strong tackling and running, Ben Gordon and James Millwater. Maids' A's had a tougher match against good opposition who made it difficult for them to play their preferred open style by tackling hard and keeping the ball in the forwards. Maids went 5-0 down as they settled in to the game, but came back with an excellent opportunist try by Will Doolan, pouncing on a loose ball over the try line. In the second half, Beaconsfield the got their noses in front again taking advantage of Maids' inexperience with the offside rule. However, the A's showed great strength of character to fight back in to the game, striking through their trademark blindside move off the back of the scrum, putting Julian Guy through to score with a strong burst through a couple of defenders. Maids were unlucky not to find the winner as they pressed the line hard but were unable to convert. This weekend the U12s have a busy schedule as they firstly entertain Barnstaple in a return curtain raiser fixture prior to the 1st XV game and then on Sunday we entertain local rivals Redingensians and a touring Macclesfield side. |
