Maidenhead RFC under 12s played determined rugby and maintained their winning form in a feisty fixture with High Wycombe on Sunday. In their first match, Maid A's took on High Wycombe A's and illustrated dominance from the start with strong rucking and mauling, and some excellent tackling from Alex Martin. The only score of a tight game came when Scott Prince fed Julian Guy who made a lot of ground before being brought down just short of the try line. Despite High Wycombe turning the ball over at the breakdown, Maids persisted to apply pressure on their defence which lead to the ball being spilled behind the try line which Abigail Dow pounced on. Final score was Maids A's 7 - High Wycombe 0. In the other match, Maid's B's took on High Wycombe B's and despite going an early try down as they settled in to the game, Maids recovered well to eventually win 28 - 12, with tries from 'man of the match - Jack Kerrigan, Xabi Leadbetter, James Millwater and Laurence Hull. The win was thoroughly deserved after continual pressure from a strong Maids' scrum, especially Conor Dunne and Laurence Jones, lead to some excellent handling through the backs. Each try came from the space created and strong running from all the players. All round an excellent team performance demonstrating the continuous progress of this squad. In the final matches, mixed strength teams were fielded and Maids won both matches 7- 0, with tries from Julian Guy in one match and Rob Thirtle in the other. |
