U6-8s Christmas Party - 20th December 2009

The youngest members of the club again held their annual event in the clubhouse. The place was awash with well over 100 children all eager to enjoy the morning. With a willing and able body of parent volunteers we were able to ensure events ran smoothly.

For most of the morning we had the services of entertainer, Brekk Sarnie, who kept the children engrossed with his eclectic show ranging from a disco and magic show through to animal shape-making with balloons.

The bar area had the atmosphere of a Grand Prix paddock with the U8s taking part in a Wii Formula One Challenge around the Interlagos Race Track. In setting the event for the U8s it was expected one the older children would set the gold standard, but they were undone by Kieran Mistry from the U7s!

Kieran comfortably beat all comers (child and adult) with a time of 1.18 and joins the illustrious company of another MRFC player with impeccable Grand Prix credentials, none other than Stirling Moss!

House of horror
Despite first impressions, no children were maimed or injured at the party. But plenty of parents felt the blood drain from their faces after seeing the work of Irene King from the U9s and her all too realistic gory and grisly injury recreations.

Irene specialises in creating amazingly realistic horror effects. Many a parent was duped into thinking the children had suffered a range of ever more ghastly misfortunes.

New York, New York
An impressive list of raffle prizes saw parents and coaches flocking to buy tickets, allowing a substantial sum to be raised for the age groups and the club. Many were hoping to win a free trip to the USA, with Brian Davis from the U6s walking off with the 1st prize – a pair of return tickets to New York courtesy of Virgin Atlantic Cargo. The lucky ticket was drawn on behalf of Virgin Atlantic by Dan March (who secured the 1st prize) and John Wanklyn.

Raffle donations
A very large thank you to every parent who made donations to the raffle and purchased tickets. The proceeds from the event have given the age groups a jump start on the fundraising trail to purchase items specific for their flock.
