Maids' rusty victory at Wallingford

Wallingford III 10

Maidenhead IV 17

Saturday 23rd January 2010

The extended Christmas break certainly didn't do Maids any favours. The high-flying 4ths looked extremely rusty as they scraped a 17-10 victory away to Walligford 3rds.

A very poor first half allowed the home side to dominate in the scrum and at the breakdown. And some particularly panicky defensive work gifted Wallingford two soft tries to take a 10-0 lead.

Maids played with greater urgency after the break and gradually took the upper hand. A try apiece from winger Shane Watson and prop Matt Filmore - the forward's first in eight years of playing senior rugby - brought Maids back on level terms.

That left young winger Aaron Lambert to seal victory with a fine solo try 15 minutes from time.
