Maids clinch runners up spot at Harwell

Harwell II 15

Maidenhead IV 26

Saturday 10th April 2010

Maids clinched the BB&O Division 2 (South) runners-up spot with a comfortable 26-15 victory at Harwell.

However, that result looked far from likely at the start. Travelling with only the bare 15 and with two players getting lost en route, Maids had to battle for all they were worth to keep the game 0-0 at half time.

They finally got on the scoresheet when full-back Charlie Jarnett scored from a fine solo run deep in his own half, touching down under the posts to leave fly-half Dave Goodman an easy conversion.

Harwell slotted a penalty soon after to reduce the deficit, but once Maids' missing players arrived ten minutes into the half, the visitors stepped up a gear and added further tries from Goodman, centre Jan Weddepohl and winger Aaron Lambert, with Goodman adding a further two conversions.

Though Harwell kept in touch with two tries of their own, Maids never really looked like relinquishing the points.

Scorers:
Tries: Charlie Jarnett, Jan Weddepohl, Dave Goodman, Aaron Lambert
Conv: Dave Goodman (3)
