Maids get into the Grove

Grove III 0

Maidenhead IV 7

Saturday 6th March 2010

Maidenhead IV visited a massively improved Grove III on Saturday and narrowly edged the win in an evenly matched BBO2 contest, decided by a single converted try.

The game was very tight from the kick off, with strong rucking and tackling by the Maidenhead forwards keeping the visitors in contention throughout a tense opening quarter. Thirty minutes into the game, centre Kinta Newman broke through the home defence to run the ball under the posts, providing a straightforward conversion for fly-half Al McEwan.

A sustained period of Maids' pressure followed and only a refereeing decision denied them a second try just before the break.

In the second half a number of unforced handling errors prevented the visitors from opening a comfortable margin and consequently Maids found themselves on the back foot in the final quarter. Once again Maids were reliant on their sturdy defence to prevent Grove getting back into the game from a series of penalties in the final minutes.

In the final analysis this was a satisfying away win against an unexpectedly strong Grove side, keeping Maidenhead IV's BBO2 title challenge on track.
