It's a funny old game!

It's not very often that you get as low a scoring game as this one, but
having said that it was good to watch and any score other than a draw would
have been very harsh on the losing side.
Both sides played well throughout the 80 minutes and were well balanced and evenly matched, as the final score showed. The Maidenhead pack were never bested at the line-out or the set scrums where they were outweighed by quite a margin. Full marks to the front five. Where they did show a huge improvement from the previous matches this season was in their driving into the rucks and mauls, usually in twos and threes, which won them a lot of turnover ball. Most of the game was played between the 22 metre lines and as a consequence not a lot "happened". Maidenhead did make an excellent break from deep in their own half when for the first time they got the ball wide and away from the Chinnor midfield defence, Lester Martin only being bundled into touch a few yards from the try line. The second half followed much the same pattern and it wasn't until close to full time that Maidenhead were awarded a penalty for a late tackle on Piers Morgan, which Rob Wilkins duly turned into 3 points. The referee then added on 8 minutes of injury time during which Chinnor ground their way deep into the Maidenhead half. A yellow card for a Maidenhead infringement left the forwards defending a set scrum virtually on their own line with only seven men. A monumental effort actually had the Chinnor pack going backwards but they managed to get the ball away into midfield where they chipped ahead and were "professionally" blocked from the ball. Penalty in front of the posts! Final score 3 all. Fair enough. Man of the Match : Dave White |
