Maids lose another one

As the season meanders gently to its conclusion, and Maidenhead face mid-table anonymity, a general malaise and disjointed team selection seems to be the cause. With the forwards being bettered in the line-outs, the set scrums and the loose play the lack of decent ball, meant that the backs were living off scraps and the final result although quite close was never really in doubt. Having said that Maidenhead were 7 - 3 up after about 15 minutes thanks to a breakaway try when the ball was chipped ahead over the Amersham try line and the bounce wrong footed the fullback enabling Mike Andrew to touch down. Rob Wilkins duly converted. 10 minutes later Amersham were back in the lead when a series of picks and drives saw them go over in the corner for a converted try. The rest of the half was played in the middle of the pitch and saw the half time score at 10 -7 to Amersham. The start of the second half saw the lead stretched even further when Amersham scored a breakaway and kick ahead try. A penalty to Maidenhead and a penalty to Amersham made it 20 -10 to Amersham and there were no more scores until late in the half Piers Morgan scampered over from the back of a maul deep in the Amersham 22 only to see them kick another penalty to make the final score 23 - 15 to Amersham. A fair result. Man of the Match : Carl Atherton |
