U15 Bulls continue winning streak at Ruislip

Ruislip 22 v Maidenhead U15 Bulls 27

On a beautiful, warm sunny morning, Maidenhead were quick out of the blocks with some impressive rucking and recycling - from a scrum inside Ruislip's half, quick ball down the backs line created the overlap and Sam McCarthy scored a well worked try.

Ruislip made the same mistake many other teams have this season by kicking the restart straight into the arms of Jacob Sanders who set off on a lengthy gallop then shipped the ball to Iain Whiteford who put Dhruv Surya into space. His speedy run nearly brought him a try however he was hauled down inches short of the line - fortunately Maids' forwards were quick in support and Bryn Evans crashed over for a try. Ruislip forwards started to increase the tempo of the close quarter encounters and with some impressive rucking, made advances into Maidenhead territory and eventually scored a well deserved forwards’ try. This was not going to be an easy game for Maidenhead - Ruislip forwards were the more cohesive however Maidenhead backs always looked threatening with ball in hand and defended well through some great tackling by Shiv Khindria and Fraser Brooks.

The next score for Maidenhead was a backs’ move straight off the training ground - quick ball from a scrum and a miss move in the centres allowed Fraser Brooks to ghost through the defence and score under the posts allowing Iain Whiteford an easy conversion. Ruislip however came charging back again and with some aggressive forwards’ play, scored under the posts - at this point several punches were thrown by players from both sides and the referee had to quickly intervene and calm players down.

Fortunately half-time arrived which took the heat out of the situation and allowed Maidenhead to regroup and use their substitutes. Ruislip started the second half well in control of the game and with the possession they had, now started to bring their backs into the game and stretch the Maidenhead defence - cracks eventually appeared and Ruislip scored another try through their forwards. Some good territorial kicking from Iain Whiteford gave Maidenhead back the momentum they so dearly craved and from a 5m scrum, Jacob Sanders broke from the No.8 position to score a try down the blindside. Ruislip immediately came storming back and a wonderful run by their centre from his own 22M line resulted in a great try under the posts which was duly converted.

The pressure was starting to tell on both sides and the heat was certainly affecting players on both sides (fitness and tempers!) but Maidenhead showed true character and a good backs’ move from halfway took them close to the tryline - from the resulting ruck, Simon Crosbie dived over for a fine try by the posts. The final play of the game was marred by the sending off of a Ruislip player however Maidenhead had done enough to hold on for a well deserved victory.
