U14s' record score at Aldermaston

Berkshire League
Aldermaston U14s 3 Maidenhead U14s 108

Sunday 22nd March 2009

On a beautiful morning for Rugby, Maidenhead U14s travelled to Aldermaston for their latest Berkshire league fixture and posted a record score of 108 points to 3. Despite the score line the Aldermaston team deserve huge credit for the spirit they displayed all the way through the game, and for some excellent individual performances. In particular the Aldermaston outside centre attacked the Maidenhead defence at every opportunity and made countless tackles to defend his own line. The Aldermaston back row also had a good day forcing several turnovers from Maidenhead possession.

Unfortunately the strength of the Maidenhead attack proved too strong for Aldermaston with Maidenhead running in an impressive 18 tries with 9 players making it onto the score sheet. Kerins led the points tally with 4 superb tries and 9 successful conversions giving him an impressive 38 points. However Man of the Match honours went to rampaging number 8, Marcus Bateson who carried the ball superbly, made untold hard yards and bagged his own hat trick of tries.

All of the Maidenhead set pieces worked well and particularly impressive was the way Maidenhead took control of the restarts, catching every single drop out, driving the play forwards and recycling the ball to build the next phase of attack.

This was another excellent team performance by the Maidenhead lads and nice to see more of the U14 squad involved in the game.

Team: Pomroy, Piper, Kerins (capt), Wright, Repetto, Garius, Hill, Avery, McGregor, Dutton, Martin, Kennedy, Horn, Wilkins, Bateson. Replacements: Egan, Hoxley, Kiddell, Medcraft, Pillai, Scott.

Tries: Kerins 4, Bateson 3, Repetto 3, Piper 2, Wilkins 2, Garius, Kennedy, Pillai, Wright. Conversions: Kerins 9
