U13s win at Aldermaston

Berkshire League
Aldermaston U13s 3 v Maidenhead U13s 61

Sunday 29th March 2009

This Berkshire Junior League match was played in sunny but cold conditions away at Aldermaston.

The home team started well, penning Maidenhead in their own half. Maidenhead were starting to look shaky in defence against the Aldermaston pack who pushed them right against the Maidenhead try line, keeping territory and possession for the first ten minutes. Fortunately second row Rheese Rolle kept his nerve and blasted through the Aldermaston forwards until felled on the half way line. With possession and space, Maidenhead opened the attack with Lee Neale and Chris Hudson combining well in the centre to feed the ball to winger Tom Starman for first try.

Another try followed from when Aldermaston lost their scrum under their posts and number 8 Owen Langstone ran straight over the line. A try by centre Chris Hudson followed another scrum in the same position, exploiting weak tackling by the Aldermaston backs. Aldermaston recovered, rallied and pushed downfield to force a penalty which they converted. The half time score was Maidenhead 21, Aldermaston 3.

Tries flowed in the second half with Maidenhead's superior fitness showing. Winger Tom Starman ran in the first and then Lee Neale took the ball downfield and was able to offload to prop Jodie Dance who scored under the posts. By this point Aldermaston's forwards began to slow down, allowing Maidenhead's backs a free run. Winger Ben Rakkar Thomas scored next, followed by another by Tom Starman. Starman later offloaded ten metres out from the Aldermaston try line to support in the form of Captain and flanker Lewis Morgan who scored another try.

Starman finished the match by running a final try in down the left wing. Lee Neale made a impressive eight out of nine conversions through match to make the final score Maidenhead 61, Aldermaston 3.
