Maidenhead's U13s were in action this weekend against Tadley RFC. In the initial clashes on the drying pitch, hooker Hamish Rosser and moments later number ten Lee Neale had to be replaced due to injury. However on the restart Maids picked up the pace starting with a physical try scored from the 22 metre line by Owen Langstone, quickly followed moments later by winger Ben Rakkar-Thomas who zigzagged his way through half the Tadley team. Emboldened by this, prop George Kingsley drove together with the other forwards to touch down a third try. On the restart, acting number ten Simon Graham caught the ball and took it forward over the half way line, opening up the defence with a trademark Graham dummy to link with winger Rakkar-Thomas who took a line through the centre of the Tadley defence to place the ball under the Tadley posts. Having shown where the holes were in the Tadley defence, centre Tom Starman ran in the next try which was converted by Bart to make the score 31-0. Scrum half Peter Watt showed quick thinking, by taking ball from the back of the scrum on the Tadley 5 metre and running through the Tadley forwards to score under their posts. Watt followed this by running in a try from the half way line. The final try of the half was scored by second row James O'Conner after hard work by the centres. Together with conversions by Patrick Bart the half time score was Maidenhead 48, Tadley 0. The second half opened with Tadley's defence considerably tightened and Maids losing their passing rhythm as a result until winger Aaron Whetton finished off with the final try to make the final score 53-0. |
