U12s entertain Beaconsfield

Sunday 25th January 2009

Following heavy overnight rain the going was heavy but playable at Braywick this Sunday.

Maidenheads under 12s were visited by Beaconsfield.

In their first competitive game of the New Year Maidenhead's A team started the shakier of the two teams. Beaconsfield looked to dominate the breakdown using two unusually large, tall and mobile players.

Maidenhead to their credit were able to repel some heavy pressure in the opening 5 minutes. Credit must be given to the tackling of the Maidenhead back line and A team débutante centre Liam Haines is worthy of a mention here.

Having weathered the early storm without conceding a try Maidenhead were able to step up a gear and began to win the battle of the break down in open play. Forward pressure lead to a well worked move allowing Tom Dutton to cross to open Maids' scoring.

After the break Ellie Rayer pounced on a loose ball against the run of play and claimed a well taken try. Maidenhead then had to weather a mini storm as Beaconsfield threatened to breach their line. However due to a huge team effort Maids kept them out and a turnover allowed Rees Williams a huge clearance kick that was chased by Matty Bourne followed by the pack. Bourne made the tackle as Beaconsfield gathered and the forwards soon gained possession with Dan Morgan crashing over for a well deserved try.

This sealed a hard fought victory over a very well organised Beaconsfield.
