MRFC Under 10 'Iron Men!' As part of Maidenhead Rugby Club's effort to support 'Starfish', the disabled children's charity, a group of players and coaches from last season's Under 10s pitched up to participate in this year's Maidenhead Carnival 'Iron Man' event on 13th June. Six boys and three coaches (as well as one of our former players) stepped up to the challenge, comprising rowing, cycling, press-ups, sit-ups and shuttle runs against the clock on a sun-baked Kidwells Park tennis court. The kids put in superb performances and gave many from the older age groups a close run for their money, with a couple actually beating the times of the U12s! To cap this off, two of the coaches ran in as first (Ian Jenkins) and second (Chris Sutton) in the adult competition and a third coach - Jon Holden - proved his toughness by completing the event in bare feet after forgetting to bring his trainers!! Overall, the U10s managed to add some £50 to the charity's total and will be returning in greater numbers next year to both better this year's times and defend the title. Participating players were: James Banks, Jake Holden, Jake Jenkins, Harry McCaffrey, Gregor Peberdy, Alex Sutton and Athena Peberdy (ex-U10 player). |
