U10Bs - A gritty performance

With a host of new players joining the squad this season, the U10Bs put in a solid performance at the Maidenhead Festival. A tough opening game against a well-drilled Henley side saw the Bs concede two tries but not without some determined spirit upfront. They commenced their second game against Oxford Harlequins with confidence and displayed some gritty defence and rucking. James Banks scored the first try of the match, but Oxford fought back strongly in the second half and edged a 2-1 result.

The team dug deep in there third match. The side came together well, started to work as a team and displayed some excellent, running rugby combined with good tackles which enabled them to a creditable 3-0 victory against Aylesbury. Tries were scored by Holden, Smith and Curran.

The team got off to a mixed start in their next match but Louis Rushton, supported by determined forwards, scored a fiercely won try and Maids held on to a 1-0 lead against opponents, Tring.

Maids gave their full commitment to the final match, knowing that a win would put them in the top three. They put in a sterling effort and never gave up, but were but were unable to cope with an aggressive Newbury side, who ended the tournament as champions. The atmosphere on the day was superb, with some excellent rugby played by all teams in a spirit of friendly rivalry.
