Happy Christmas for U14s at Amersham & Chiltern

Amersham & Chiltern U14s 24 v Maidenhead U14s 46
16th December 2007

The Maidenhead Under 14 squad travelled to Amersham and Chiltern on a very cold but bright Sunday morning for a friendly fixture, and finished the first half of the season as 46 - 24 winners.

The match was split into 4 quarters with multiple changes in players and personnel making continuity a challenge, particularly for Maids, who had the bigger squad. A hastily assembled starting XV got off to a good start with a try from Markus Olivier well converted by Fraser Brooks, but lax, sleepy defence then let the hosts back in to the game with a try of their own. This sparked Maids into life and a second try came after flying wing Thomas Eckles was caught just short of the line after a long attacking run, before the ball moved quickly the other way across the pitch, wrong-footing the defence and allowing Max O'Connor on the other wing to touch down Olivier's chip ahead.

Amersham and Chiltern came back into the game in the second quarter, scoring several tries and taking the lead, but Maids dominated the last two periods, and despite experimenting with 4 different players in the scrum-half role, 3 fly halves, 4 full backs and a variety of other combinations, tries came from Markus Olivier for his second, Daniel Andrews-Jones with 3 and Dominik Bart with 2 (one as a flanker, one as a centre). William Thompson and Fraser Brooks added the conversions.

A great way to lead up to Christmas, with a number of good performances, game time for all 30 players present, some players happy to try any position asked of them, and a win!

Merry Christmas and here's to a Happy 2008!
