Maids continued their league winning form in a solid hard fought performance away at Reading Abbey on Sunday. Maintaining another clean sheet and scoring 5 excellent tries to complete a convincing 31-0 win. The playing conditions were excellent and Maids got the kick off. As regular as clock work Outside Centre Colin Kerins had Maids on the score sheet within the 2nd minute of the game with a blistering try from the Abbey 22 yard line. The Maids' forwards were quickly dominating the breakdown and the flow of ball to the Maids' backs was smooth and occasionally brilliant with wing Emi Repetto and Colin Kerins switching the ball between each other effortlessly. Inside Centre Martin Harris was in particularly strong form, winning plenty of yards with some fast footwork and was eventually rewarded with a an excellent try, superbly converted by Jonny Garius. Maids were dominating the scrum and the line outs. Second Row forward Christian Horn was in blistering form in the pack and rucking with real power and aggression. Centre Kerins took advantage of a loose ball and challenged the Abbey defence with a darting run over the Abbey line to put Maids 3 tries up. Although this was a game where the Maids' backs claimed most of the glory and put most of the points on the board. The Maids' forwards were determined not to be out done. Powerhouse front row George Dutton picked up a loose ball from a maul and bulldozed his way over the Abbey defence to score a well deserved try having been thwarted earlier through a held up try. This gave Maids a half time lead of 26-O. The second half looked as if it was going to be business as usual with another blistering try from Colin Kerins within the 1st minute of the restart. However that was the turning point for Abbey who suddenly found another gear and went into overdrive forcing Maids into defending their own five metre line for ten minutes. Maids' defence during this period was awesome and many bodies were put on the line in an desperate effort to retain their hard earned clean sheet. Eventually Maids broke down the will of the Abbey attack and managed to gain back some territory and control of the game. Abbey deserved credit for their gutsy second half performance. They came back fighting again and again to attack the Maids' defence with a certain try only being stopped by Centre Kerins to end the match 0-31 to Maidenhead. Man of the Match = Colin Kerins, with special mentions for George Dutton and Christian Horn Maids' A Squad: |
