Maids returned to form in glorious style in their 4th league game of the season with a convincing 59-0 win over local rivals Reading.

This was always going to be a gritty encounter with freezing gale force winds keeping the spectator numbers low and making line outs, long passing and kicking a bit of a lottery for both teams.

Maids were over due some luck in their league campaign and today lady luck was on their side when a missed pass which could have easily resulted in a instant Reading try was picked up by Maids Centre Colin Kerins to allow him to score one of his now infamous trade mark tries within the 1st minute of play.

The Reading pack were a solid bunch with some real heavyweights making up a formidable looking front row. Despite being considerably outweighed Maids pack were more than a match for their counterparts and continuously out rucked and out mauled their opposition.

For the first time this season the flow of ball to the Maids backs was smooth and occasionally brilliant and wing Emi Repetto was on fire with ball in hand and was quickly on the score sheet with a blistering try from an impressive set piece between him and Kerins switching the ball to maximum effect. Repetto was quickly back on the score sheet with another awesome try which evolved from a ruck which the Maids forwards completely dominated.

The 1st half was rounded off in the same vein as the way it started with a blistering run from Kerins to take Maids into the half time break ahead 26-0.

Conscious of not wanting a repeat of the second half disaster that beset England in their weekend game against Wales, the Maids squad came out into the second half with a mission. Their goal had been set in mid week training to score at least 50 points without conceding a point. Colin Kerins made sure the Reading defence was under no illusions of this determination with an immediate try straight after the break.

Although this was a game where the Maids backs claimed most of the glory and put most of the points on the board. The Maids forwards were determined not to be out done. Powerhouse front row Cameron Avery picked up a loose ball from a maul and bulldozed his way over the Reading defence. Similarly, flamboyant No.8 Marcus Bateson took on 3 Reading players to put Maids beyond reach.

With prolific Centre Kerins putting 2 more tries in to give Maids an impressive 9 try to nil lead it was only fitting to see Fly half Jonny Garius convert his 7th conversion of the day which was a tremendous result considering the awful weather conditions.
